zelempa: Jim Ellison looking kind of stern (jim sternish)
(looks critically at it)

It's kind of rough, and I didn't draw in the loft in the background as I ought to have, and there's a definite continuity issue w/r/t whether or not Jim is wearing a watch; but I think I got better as I went along, and I'd probably improve if I did more of them.

Blame ficfinders.
zelempa: Blair Sandburg looking hopeful (blair hopeful)
O-kay! Something to cross off my list of things to do!

I put some solid work in tonight and finally, finally finished watching Demon Under Glass. I have been at it since, like, October. I just couldn't watch for longer than about five minutes at a time.

What I'm trying to tell you, I guess, is that that's why the recap is so incredibly detailed.

DEMON UNDER GLASS "In a featureless black box room, the three doctors watch through a one-way mirror into the super-secure-totally-look-we-boringly-showed-all-these-security-measures room where the SWAT guys are installing Marcus's casket. Subcommander Tal tells [Blair] that inside is a 'creature of pure [mumble]' (malevolence? evil? metal?) Blair guesses 'Lawn gnome?' Dirty look: 'Vampire.' Blair's incredulous. Tal: 'Do you know any human being that can be repeatedly shot, clubbed, shoved into a box, and still have the strength to resist?' Well, Blair does, yeah."

NB: I do not want you to watch this movie. I can't stress that enough. I don't even really recommend that you read the recap, but must needs when the devil drives. Godspeed.
zelempa: Jim Ellison looking kind of stern (jim sternish)
1x10 Vow of Silence "The others cross themselves again, and Blair slaps Jim on the arm affectionately, which for him comes to much the same thing. (Did I just liken Jim to Blair's messiah? Oh... well... I guess that's apt.)"

And we are done with season one. I love The Roundup; I wish I'd done it for every season. I'll just have to fudge it, I guess. Let me know if I missed anything, won't you?

There's still one or two episodes I'd like to complete/spruce up. After that... I don't know. The world! (Or maybe some fic.)

After I posted my woefully limited TS top-few list, you lovely people gave me some recs of things I should have read ages ago. Well, I am reading them now!

(instead of working. waugh) )
zelempa: zelempa classic (Default)
I liked this episode much more on rewatching.

1x9 Attraction "Blair gives Jim a mini-lecture on pheromones, concluding with, 'It's kinda like, ah, when people say that you got chemistry with somebody? Well, we actually do have chemistry.' Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. Ha."
zelempa: zelempa classic (Default)
A couple of different people have asked on comms and so forth for all-star favorite TS recs, and I thought I'd give some of mine.

From the repetition of authors here, it'll be clear that I have not read at all widely in this fandom. I tend not to spend nearly as much time enjoying existing things as I do trying to make new things. The downside to that of course is that I end up retreading things that have been done, and I lack important cultural background, and I'm kind of a feedback vacuum; but what can I say? I like making things!

Other caveats: I tend to rec things that were written, and that I read, a long time ago (years), so they've had plenty of time to stew in my mind. I tend to have read authors I know from SGA, because that's how I got into fandom. And I tend to have read only short things, as I'm commitmentphobic.

Onto the hall of fame )

That was--what, only three authors? Obviously I need to get out more. If you want to save me time by recing your all-star favorites, go for it.

FINALLY! I've been working on this in about five minute increments since the beginning of time, so you may notice that I start to repeat myself; specifically with regards to certain claims about Blair. (Which cannot be proved false!)

1x8 Love and Guns "'Hey, Chief, look, there's no reason to be ashamed if you're a little queasy,' Jim says kindly, putting both hands on Blair's knees. On his knees, dude. Classic gay chicken move. (That would explain a lot about Jim and Blair's relationship, actually.)"

I'll try to go similarly overboard on the Jim screencaps next recap. :)

So, this requires some preface, I think.

This is in honor of the one-weekiversary of [livejournal.com profile] janedavitt posting some screencaps from Desperate Housewives of RB tied to a bed. Those images kicked around in my head for awhile and on Sunday when I had planned to either work on the angst epic I promised awhile back or to do something else with my LIFE, LORD, I instead sat down at the computer and wrote PWP. Three hours of typing later it had taken a determined and surprisingly canonical detour into angstville. This I found pleasing, and I hope you will, too. This one goes out to you, Jane.

As always, the enormous brain that [livejournal.com profile] yolsaffbridge somehow fits in her skull was instrumental in helping me figure out what I was doing with this story.

[livejournal.com profile] yolsaffbridge and I have been trying to put together backstory timelines and other fun facts about Jim and Blair, and what we've got is here. (I'm thinking of putting a straight list of all the recaps, without splitting it up by season and page, there, too. It would make it easier to search for the episode you want without knowing when it was.)

Anyway, did we miss anything?

(Once again, my gratitude for Becky's transcripts cannot be overstated.)

ETA: Check out Jim's timeline again if you already have; I added a bunch more stuff and, um, color coded it.

As proof that I am indeed writing I offer this short scene cut from my current TS WIP. Things have veered in another direction and there's no way I could possibly put it back even if I wanted to, or at least, it would be very ill-advised. So it's going here! It requires no context and won't spoil you as it has next to nothing to do with the plot of the surrounding story (which probably explains why it had to be cut).

1. Does anybody here know of a Sentinel story which is entirely dialogue -- no narration whatsoever? I think there were also sound effects like [papers rustling] or something. I remember reading one a long time ago, but I looked on the archives of [livejournal.com profile] cesperanza and [livejournal.com profile] resonant, the authors whose TS stories I read first, and I can't seem to track it down.

2. WHY IS THERE NO TS_STORYFINDERS COMM ON LIVEJOURNAL
zelempa: zelempa classic (Default)
One more thing: in honor of the [livejournal.com profile] ts_secret_santa reveal, I've now got a mirror up of my story, The Classification of Waterfowl.
zelempa: zelempa classic (Default)
I'm going to have a lot of livejournal catching up to do at work tomorrow. Freaking Christmas! Have a recap.

1x7 Rogue "'Give a speech?' 'Yeah!' 'I'd rather have root canal,' Jim declares. Off Blair's bemused/beseeching reaction, we cut to Jim crossing the campus... Just once I wish a show would show us what happened between the guy saying 'I won't do it' and the guy doing it. But this show is this show, and so I guess it couldn't have shown us the events which changed Jim's mind without losing its PG rating."
zelempa: zelempa classic (Default)
You need to read the present I got today from my anonymawesome Secret Santa at [livejournal.com profile] ts_secret_santa. First, know that I asked for "Academic Blair and/or role reversal." My author hits both of them in a clever and emotionally satisfying story. Enjoy Change of Scenery.
zelempa: zelempa classic (Default)
Not that anything can top the comment count on my last recap, unless [livejournal.com profile] cross_stitchery can produce another fun fact about GM or RB's physical person, but here's your next recap.

1x6 Night Train "Wilson is kicking Blair's ass at Go when Jim comes back and immediately uncuffs him. 'We gotta talk.' 'Again?' Maybe, Blair, if you refrained from drawing attention to the frequency with which Jim pulls you aside for private conferences, it might be better for both of your sex lives?"
zelempa: zelempa classic (Default)
Website troubles resolved! You may now have your Sentinel recap.

1x5 CYPHER "Kiss ends, and [Blair's love interest] says, 'From now on, be straight with me, okay?' and I laugh and laugh."
zelempa: zelempa classic (Default)
"Blair insists, 'It's about dominance and submission of subgroups!' Is he trying to hint something? Other things I expect Blair has said today: Man, I can't believe I signed up for this English class; I must be masochistic. Hey, Jim, have you read this book, Of Human Bondage ? Cause if you don't have a copy I'll have to go out and buy a brand spanking new one."

THE DEBT
zelempa: zelempa classic (Default)
Astute readers of my Sentinel recaps might have noticed that, even if you count as recaps the old s1 reviews which I plan to redo, my coverage is incomplete. There's one episode missing.

Why I never recapped 2x14 Light My Fire )

So I'm not sure how to proceed; but so far just leaving that episode mysteriously unrecapped is working for me.

zelempa: zelempa classic (Default)
I was going to work on my WIP today, but instead I did another one of these.

1x3 Killers "[Jim and Beverly] talk about their exes and then Jim stops suddenly. 'What's wrong?' 'Oh, I was just thinking about Danny...' Face, meet palm."
