TSRBB

I've signed up to do art for [livejournal.com profile] sentinelbigbang's Reverse Bang (sign-ups are going on right now if you are interested!)I've never done a Reverse Bang before, but it seems like fun, art and prompt rolled up into one! Any advice on what constitutes an inspiring illustration to start from, either from artists or writers?

Who watches the watcher?

Because it is not disallowed to sign up late, I have also signed up to be an author at Journey Story. Yes, in Baby-sitters Club. :D Oh, man, who is going to do art for me?

A journey of 1000 miles starts with a single sign-up.

So I remember what I've signed up for: Journey Story, a multifandom Big Bang about road trips. I got randomly invited by the mod. I'll take it!

I'm signed up an artist, and those sign-ups are still open if you're interested! Popular fandoms among the writers signed up seem to be Supernatural, DW/TW, Inception, Merlin, with strong representation from SGA, Sherlock, and XMFC, as well as several smaller fandoms. Top Gear slash is apparently a thing. [personal profile] piscaria is signed up to write Byron/Jeff, but you can't have that one because THAT IS MINE.

McShep Match 2011

[community profile] mcshep_match started posting today! I have something in the fest this year (but what???) so I can't vote, but you can! Probably!

My first-ever challenge was McShep Match 2007 (the first-ever McShep Match!), so it feels like my five*-year anniversary of fandom.

*Edited because I can't do math.

DS Big Bang Reveal

[community profile] ds_c6d_bigbang revealed today on AO3. I did five drawings for [personal profile] tres_mechante's Elements of Life.

There's a little more commentary on each one (and of course the reference photos!) on my reference photo/art tumblr, in between photos of Ian McKellan.

Reveals & Roundup, 2010

REVEAL TIME!! It's been pretty much two solid months of working on fannish stuff for this holiday season. I don't know what to do with my life anymore! Anyway, here's what I'm responsible for perpetrating:

  1. The Island for Yuletart for Mrs Frankenstein [ETA Jan 5]. Slings and Arrows, gen-ish but Darren/Geoffrey-ish. PG for language. Features an amusement park!
    [Yuletart | my site ]

  2. You Can Plan on Me for The Sentinel Secret Santa for snycock. Jim/Blair, PG, 6700 words. A seasonal fic! For once!
    [TSSS | AO3 | my site ]

  3. Detective Raymond Vecchio's Protection by the Consulate of the Great Nation of Canada: An Illustrated Report by Constable Renfield Turnbull for Due South Seekrit Santa for lalejandra. Fraser/RayK, PG. Art/fic hybrid thingy, with 3 images + 300 words. Missing scenes from 3x9 "Asylum."
    [AO3 | my site ]

  4. Finally, the biggie:
Byron and the God of California for Yuletide for mizzmarvel. Baby-sitters Club, Byron Pike/Jeff Schafer, PG-13. 29,500 words. (YES.) I had SOOOOOO much fun with this, you guys. Byron/Jeff had never occurred to me as a pairing until I read the prompt, and then it was like one of those moments where you discover your calling in life. I didn't know it, but I HAVE BEEN PREPARING FOR THIS MY WHOLE LIFE.
    [AO3 | my site ]

In honor of the reveal, I have done a special piece of art!

Cover for 'Byron and the God of California'
Cover, pretty much a reboot of actual BSC #34, Mary Anne and Too Many Boys. I tried to make the colored pencils blended enough so that you can kind of squint and pretend it's a Hodges Soileau oil painting, but as always they look better in person than in the scan.

(Weirdly, just yesterday Amazon popped up a recommendation for me of a BSC book I never knew existed, in which the triplets and Jeff are invited to join the club. It doesn't work out! Why? Why? What is Jeff even doing there? I can't believe I had no idea about this before I wrote this story! I ordered it, but I'm worried now that I'll have to do, like, a revised and expanded edition. What if this changes things??)

*ahem*

We're going to make this a Boxing Day the Prime Minister will never forget!

Yesterday was December 25th, and everyone knows what that means: Yuletide and Due South Seekrit Santa went live! I got lovely treats!

For DSSS: Sing Me A Winter Song, F/K watercolor, a super sweet and romantic and cozy vision of Fraser and Kowalski in their Arctic cabin post-COTW. Blankets! Guitars! Long underwear! New or transported chili pepper lights! Awwwwzheva.

For Yuletide: Ramona's Law of Reciprocal Actions, a futurefic showing the kids from the Ramona series by Beverly Cleary at ages 17+. I love futurefics of kids' lit; I mean, partially it's because I just love high school romances (which this totally IS, and a very sweet one, though I won't spoil the pairing). One of the things I love most about the Ramona series is following the characters over time, watching them grow and change and yet still remain fundamentally themselves. This author's Ramona (and her Susan, Daisy, Howie, Yard Ape, Davy, Beezus...) is very IC but also mature, romance-minded, and vaguely delinquent. It's delightful!

I hope your treats were just as satisfying, friends!

Dear Yuletide Writer

Ha ha. I signed up for Yuletide. Listen, two of the three Secret Santas which I have not yet done are due next week, so after next week I'll be free! Right? Right.

Hello, Yuletide writer!!! *waves arms wildly* I am so thrilled to have you writing for me. More on my choices. )

It appears the words I've used most in all of these requests are "romance" and "hijinks." At least I'm consistent!

TS Fic: Cult of Personality

Wow, time to post my Sentinel Big Bang fic already? It sure sneaks up on you, huh?

Title: Cult of Personality
Author: zelempa
Artist: alynt
Genre: Slash, established relationship, angst, h/c, whump
Word Count: ~26,000
Warnings: Torture. Sex. (The two are separate.)
Author's Notes: Thanks to Yolsaffbridge, Mab Browne, and alynt for beta.

The sound of his own hoarse voice was surprising. It was probably no louder than a whisper, but it sounded like a shout against a background of nothing. At least he knew he wasn't deaf.

He rolled his tongue over his swollen lip. Wherever he was, he hadn't been here long. His mouth was still bleeding.

He was beginning to regret, now, that the last words he'd formed with that mouth had been, "You want to help me, Sandburg, leave me the fuck alone!"

AO3... soon. Now I have to go to bed.

TS Big Bang Art Post!

I guess it's my posting date somewhere. Time for some Sentinel Big Bang art!

My story was Baby Steps by [personal profile] raine. It was a pleasure to draw for! Raine is great to work with. I did the interior illustrations in brush and ink--MAYBE a kidfic was not the best time to practice my Sin City style huge swaths of black? NO I DO NOT AGREE--and the cover was a total experiment in pairing my old prisma markers with my brand new Pentel brush pen. I have decided that I love my brand new Pentel brush pen. Experiment declared a success!

Thumbnails link to full size; these are also located on my site.

Before Blair could say hello, Jim thrust Cody into his arms.

You made it clear he's not your son

Smiling, Cody presented a stuffed toy to Blair

DSSS Beta/Cheerleading Signal Boost

DS Seekrit Santa has issued an open call for betas and cheerleaders. As a participant, it's probably a bad idea for me to volunteer, but if you're not participating and you want to offer your services to DS writers and artists, go! go and comment there!

If you want to beta or cheerlead for ME, uh, comment here! :D

Beta request!

Would anyone in TS be able to do a last minute final beta on my TSBB story?

The story is: Spoiler cut )

I've had a couple people look at drafts, so now I'm mostly looking for polishing type stuff (missing words, confusing sentences, typos, etc) but plot holes and general suggestions would also be welcome. The main concern is time. I'm not sure which day I'll be posting yet, but the earliest possible deadline for the story is November 1, so if you have time in the next few days that would be great!

I am a christmas goose

So, I'm just going to sign up for as many yuletide fests as possible, because each one will be motivation to get the others done, and because what I really want to do this November is curse my past self.

The count is now at two.

The Sentinel Secret Santa, a about-1000-word story exchange for TS. My signup is here, for my own reference, and in case you want to TAILOR MAKE your entry to get paired with mine (wink!). As I said on LJ and forgot to crosspost to DW, I wrote my first TS story for the Secret Santa, and I'd love it if some new people got into it! The more the merrier, secret-wise.

Yuletart, a multifandom art exchange. My Yuletart signup is here. The fandom list is long but I still managed to make an almost equally long list of offers from off-list.

Still to come: DS secret santa; real Yuletide.

Now let's help Chile!

How depressing if all my fic writing this year is driven by earthquakes. I mean... empowering? People helping people! Yeah!

My posts at [livejournal.com profile] help_chile:

Fic In short: 1000+ words, slash, in The Sentinel or Due South, or any of several fandoms I've never written but would like to: House, Xena, Criminal Minds, Mighty Boosh, or Degrassi (does anyone write in Degrassi?)

Comic about four pages in Due South, The Sentinel or Stargate: Atlantis. (Note SGA's conspicuous absence from my fic list! I don't really have a lot of ideas in that fandom these days but I do like John Sheppard's face.)

Low prices, good cause, act now!

DS Fic: Volcanic Geranium

I can now present to you my final and main [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti product, also my first due South fic, also my longest fic?? Somehow???

Title: Volcanic Geranium
Fandom, Pairing: Due South, Fraser/RayK
Rating: Explicit
Length: 22,000 words
A/N: Set not long after 3x04 "Strange Bedfellows." Written for [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti for my winning bidder, [livejournal.com profile] lucifuge_5. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] yolsaffbridge for story development and beta, and to for [livejournal.com profile] nightshadow_t2 for more beta!

Fraser raised his eyebrows thoughtfully. "Lipstick colour names can be rather obscure. I assume it's a metaphor to describe something fragile and lovely but also dangerous and potentially capable of raining hot destruction upon an unsuspecting citizenry. On the other hand, it may refer to the fact that this particular coral shade is common to molten lava and geraniums. Don't lick it."

"It tastes like Jujubes," Ray reported.

"Nevertheless, resist the urge."

You don't mind if I don't post here, right? It's so huge I think it would take up three posts. (My first three post fic!)
