I've signed up to do art for sentinelbigbang's Reverse Bang (sign-ups are going on right now if you are interested!)I've never done a Reverse Bang before, but it seems like fun, art and prompt rolled up into one! Any advice on what constitutes an inspiring illustration to start from, either from artists or writers?

I think that really, anything with a definite theme or mood. Also, what would you personally like to see in a story,cuz it's your art after all? Any side characters that you really want to hint should be included? Cityscape or rural or wilderness? It's a bit of a punt, I guess, but as long as there's something more than Jim and Blair generically smiling (or frowning) at each other, then that helps.

Thanks, yeah, that makes sense. Thinking of it more like an illustration for a story that hasn't been written yet, it's overwhelming, but as you say, it's basically a chance to do a prompt. And I always like prompts better when they include lots of specificity: not so much that the story is already planned out in every particular, but definitely way more than "something romantic" which would be the smiling-generically equivalent. Theoretically, art is actually a really good medium for a prompt, because it kind of keeps you from getting too overplanny (since you are only crystallizing one moment) or too generic (there has to be some kind of mood, you have to at least answer the questions of where are they and what are they wearing and who and what else is there...)
