In some ways I'm relieved that it's not going to go on and on and on (speaking as a very ex-XFiles fan), but ending the series on a cliffhanger to be solved in a telemovie? That's the sort of thing that makes me want to give the fingers to TPTB.

Yeah, that's lame. I don't want a semi-open canon!
Although if they wanted to make a TS reunion TV movie where it's 12 years later and Jim and Blair still live together, that's fine by me
