SGA 4x14 Harmony

Silly, but therefore thoroughly enjoyable. And the gods of old confirm something about John we've known for a long, long time.


Plot: Some pretty princesses sucker John and Rodney into accompanying their kid sister, Harmony, the queen-to-be, on a spirit quest journey thing she needs to do to win the throne.

Highlights:

• Before they know the third sister is a child:
  RODNEY: I'm calling dibs on the third sister.
  JOHN: You can't call dibs.
  RODNEY: We both know that Flora and Mardola have been suckered in by the whole cliche heroic thing you got going, but maybe this other sister, maybe her taste in men will run more to the, ah...
  JOHN: Geeky?
  RODNEY: I was going to say cerebral, but... Who knows? Maybe we'll hit it off.
  JOHN: I don't need your love life screwing up our trade relations.
  RODNEY: I'll try not to break her heart, but no promises.
  
  So Rodney and Katie are officially broken up, then?
  
  Also: must stop thinking about John and Rodney's "trade relations"
  
  
• As usual, the princess who most successfully flirts with John is the one who looks EXACTLY LIKE HIM. Nice ego, Sheppard.
  
  
• Married! Couple! Bickering!
  RODNEY: Are you going to eat your power bar?
  JOHN: Yes, Rodney. I told you, you shouldn't have eaten yours so early in the day.
  RODNEY: I'm starving! Usually Flora feeds us some kind of food when we visit. Come on, you hardly ever eat yours.
  JOHN: No, Rodney!
  RODNEY: Well, will you give it to me later when you've decided not to eat it?
  HARMONY: You allow him to question you so incessantly?
  JOHN: I guess I'm just used to it by now.
  
  
• Harmony frames Rodney for eating John's power bar, and then bursts into fake tears when Rodney accuses her. John gives her a stiff hug.
  JOHN: It's okay, sweetie. Sometimes he makes me cry, too.

• JOHN: There will be plenty of time to think up punishments [for Rodney] on the way.
  HARMONY: But Jo-ohn!
  JOHN: How about thumbscrews? You like them?
  HARMONY (appeased): Oh, yes. Thumbscrews are good.
  
  
• Rodney says "John" again. And again. And again!
  RODNEY (looking around, seeing John missing, panicking): Sheppard? John! (tapping radio, catch in voice) John. John, are you there?
  
  
• RODNEY: I've been doing a little thinking.
  JOHN: You have, have you.
  RODNEY: I've got a Wraith stunner in my backpack, she can't weigh more than 90 pounds. I say we stun her and just carry her back.
  JOHN: (considers this for a long while) ...Nah, we can't stun a thirteen-year-old girl.
  
  
• RODNEY: I'm sorry. I'm hungry. When I get hungry, I get cranky.
  JOHN: When you get cranky, you get hit.
  
  
• John gives Harmony leadership advice ("You have to put the needs of your people above everything else, including your own"). <3 King of Atlantis!John.
  
  
• John confiscates an enemy radio.
  VOICE OVER RADIO: Hiron, come in!
  RODNEY: If we don't respond, they're gonna come investigate.
  JOHN (low voice): Hiron here.
  VOICE: What's your status?
  JOHN: Good.
  VOICE: Elaborate!
  JOHN: ... Real good.
  
  
• JOHN: There will be no smiting today, little lady!
  
  John is going to make such a great dad.
  
  
• Ha ha ha ha ha! Ever since John and Rodney figured out that the ancient tech ruin thingy the girl thinks can only be activated by "the true queen" can actually be activated by anyone with the queen's pendant and the ATA gene, I have been WAITING for John to activate it and NOW THAT MOMENT HAS ARRIVED
  
  JOHN IS THE TRUE QUEEN
  
  LET THE WORLD CELEBRATE HIS REIGN
  
  
• The tables turn at the end as Harmony gets mad at John for being a usurper and praises Rodney for saving her life; the painting she has commissioned of herself standing looking noble, Rodney firing heroically, and John cowering is kind of great.

I thought it was pretty awesome. I got the "John is the Queen"! moment too... I've seen the jokes about John loving Queens, and Queens loving John. I also liked how Harmony asked Rodney for love advice, and said, "So you won't get between me and John?"

Also, tough competent female character = good, even if she is kind of ridiculous.

This episode had Star Wars written all over it. The 'good, real good', conversation = Han Solo trying to delay the guards from finding out they were rescuing Princess Leia. The scene at the end where the little queen is rewarding John and Rodney = the scene where Leia gave Han and Luke their medalions in front of the assembly. AND Rodney = 13 year old bratty girl. Which he recognized. Also, I don't think John fell for her crocodile tears, just appeased her.

If QueenJohn (CANON) and Rodney had a daughter, she would be named Harmony :) I adore that Martin Gero is giving us so much of the McShep goodness over the years.
