Guess who got a superawesome nondenominational holiday present? Zelempa did!

[livejournal.com profile] yolsaffbridge podficced my SGA fic, Rock, Paper (No Scissors)! It is available as mp3 on a new podfic page made for the occasion, which you can get to by clicking right here. Hearing someone else read something you have written is both delightful and slightly discomforting (in a good way).

ETA As Y never updates her journal, I guess you should feedback here, if you want to! She'll see it. I'll start you off. Yolsaffbridge has done the impossible in reading, clearly and pleasantly, a story which, as it turns out, is about 90% meandering garden-path sentences with twenty thousand clauses apiece, because, apparently, that is how I write. (See what I did there?) Also, while she's mostly American-sounding, she has a charming hint of an accent which is just enough to keep you guessing if you don't know, as I do, that she is Vulcan.

ETA ETA It should work for real now. :/

Will this be announced on the SGA Podfic community? (Or maybe it already has been..I'm behind on LJ)

Am I doing something brainless? I'm getting an error message for the podfic link.

Augh! That's because I'm an idiot. Hold on.

That is really cool. My sound card isn't working in my computer and when I tried to download another podfic it didn't work, but I'll give it a try. I love listening to books on tape and I think it's great that people are doing podfic.

I know, right? Sometimes you want to listen to a book on tape! They're excellent for repetitive visual tasks such as filling in a spreadsheet, putting together a jigsaw, painting a bookshelf, or lovingly coloring a picture of Benton Fraser. If you had the technology (ipod? burning to CD?) you could listen to them on a long drive!

Hi! I saw "Rock, Paper (No Scissors)" podficced on the community but decided to read your story instead. I'm not one for slash, but I loved it! You really know these characters! I'm a sucker for angst and hurt/comfort, which is what drew me to your fic in the first place, and you sure as hell didn't disappoint! The dialogue was awesome, the use of the notes brilliant... great fic! Thanks!

Thank you! :D I'm glad you liked it!

Wow, you like hurt/comfort but not slash? I can't even think of those concepts separately. But I have slash goggles permanently melded to my face (welding accident), so maybe I'm not one to talk.

Apropos of this conversation, I've been taken down a peg.

yolsaffbridge: YOU. YOU liked hurt/comfort but not slash. YOU did
zelempa: like who???? WHO did I like being hurt and comforting each other
yolsaffbridge: you kept talking about it in your books! and then whenever i'd say, "there's a lot of that in SLASH", you'd say it's not the same
zelempa: WHEN
yolsaffbridge: every book you read! ever!
zelempa: WHAT BOOKS
yolsaffbridge: you were like, this is what i like: all the emotional arcs. not the plot, just them taking care of each other. i recall it!
zelempa: I can't think of a single h/c het couple I have liked. I mean, I liked Frodo and Sam.
yolsaffbridge: brideshead? you def. talked about it there
zelempa: THEY ARE GAY
yolsaffbridge: yeah, i KNOW, but not EXPLICITLY. that would count as gen
zelempa: pre-slash
yolsaffbridge: you liked h/c gen!
zelempa: wow. Did I just think if they kissed it would become TOO REAL? I wasn't ready to come to terms with my affinity for homosexuality!
yolsaffbridge: that may have been it
zelempa: What was wrong with me?

Sometimes, I read slash just for the hurt/comfort, but there are nonslash hurt/comfort fics that are really quite good.
