Not like I'm recapping or anything...

Ever get the urge to just recap or transcribe one scene? Enjoy this tidbit.
The meeting of Gabrielle and Iolaus does little to advance the plot of the episode "Prometheus" and might easily have ended up on the cutting-room floor, but I'm glad it didn't, as sidekick solidarity is important. FYI, the transcript cannot capture Michael Hurst's easy charm nor Renee O'Connor's eager sweetness.
IOLAUS: I want to know if you've seen a friend of mine. Tall, broad shoulders, big arms... (sighing, resigned) Very handsome... [Ed. note: It should be noted that, for whatever reason, I never caught the slightest sexual tension between Hercules and Iolaus; so I enjoy this line on the level on which it was intended.]
FELAFEL: Hercules! I haven't seen him, but I have the cradle he was nursed in.
GABRIELLE: Why are you looking for Hercules?
IOLAUS: I have something he needs. [Ed. note: Okay, now maybe I'm getting a gay vibe... particularly since it is never revealed in the episode what this 'something' is.]
GABRIELLE: So you know him?
IOLAUS: Yeah.
GABRIELLE: How well? [Ed. note: Gabby is also getting a gay vibe.]
IOLAUS: Well, he's... my... best friend!
GABRIELLE (incredulous): Really.
IOLAUS (patiently): Yeah!
GABRIELLE: Huh! Would you mind if I asked you a personal question? [Ed. note: Vibing like crazy.]
IOLAUS (playfully): I suppose not. [And he has no idea.]
GABRIELLE: What's it like to be friends with someone like Hercules? Do you find it a little intimidating?
IOLAUS: (looks confused)
GABRIELLE (laughing): Do you know what I mean? [She means in the sack.]
IOLAUS: I'm not sure. [She means in the sack.]
GABRIELLE: Isn't it hard just to stand around while he's doing all these heroic labors?
IOLAUS: Well, I don't just stand around. I'm right there with him, fighting by his side.
GABRIELLE: Maybe I'll try that.
[And to this day Iolaus doesn't understand why Gabrielle credits him with teaching her how to take control of her own orgasm.]

on 2007-12-14 04:36 am (UTC)Ya know, Herc was my first slash fandom and I do see quite a few slashy things in the show and whenever Iolaus died (lol), Herc's pain just went to my gut....but I know what you mean about the 'chemistry' and I think it's because of KS's open aversion to the idea. MH even commented how uncomfortable he was around Michael when he was in his Miss Twanky get up....and Michael would get all touchy-feely with him. Sad. I think if he was a bit more comfy with the idea, there would have been alot more tension there. But still, they're my first couple and I still love some hot H/I action!
