First lines meme

I don't have 25 fics (and if my recent drought keeps up, I never will! but, seriously, I am writing; I've just been busy with some original type stuff lately. I know, lame. But I am almost certain I'll get back to fanfic when I'm done with that), but I wanted to do the meme where you list the first line of your last 25 fics and try to find a pattern. So here are my 8. (I actually have ten but one is a series of lists so it doesn't really have first line per se and one was sort of a "training wheels" fic and I generally omit it plus it is easier to do percentages from 8 than 9.)
Two Weeks Notice
"Now that we're back in contact with Earth," Carter began, and then paused, as if expecting applause.
Go Down Gamblin'
Jim had stopped complaining about the unavoidable little noises that wrenched him from sleep whenever he and Blair kept different hours--in this case, playing cards being dealt out.
Overload
Most of the cops didn't want to come; didn't want to see what Jim had been reduced to.
It's Complicated
"I am never going anywhere without a transporter again," McKay panted for the ninety-ninth time, apparently having found his third wind.
With Replacement
Rodney had ranked the hypothetical scenarios leading to sex with Colonel Sheppard according to likelihood.
Subject to Error
Sandburg was a kinky bastard.
The Classification of Waterfowl
"Extortion is such an ugly word," said Gammett, as he stood between Jim and Blair in the elevator.
Rock, Paper (No Scissors)
TESTING
SHEPPARD
Are you there?
So. Three dialogue, and one note, which I guess counts as dialogue. Of the remaining four, three start with someone'sfirst name (sorry, forgot "Sandburg" isn't a first name). I don't know what, if anything, that says about me as a person. I am struck by the way, in many cases, the first sentence would have been a better teaser/summary line than whatever I ended up choosing from the middle. In at least one case, the first line is better than the rest of the story!
