"The Switchman" in 15 Minutes*: A Recap Comic

*Conversion: 15 minutes = 8 pages.

I started this before the spate of illustrations, and I just finished it today. It was a great way to practice drawing the guys in a fairly simple style (with intermittent success), but it was more time-consuming than I thought it would be, so I probably won't do more.

Okay, maybe one or two, if I get inspired. But it's hard to think of another episode with the right balance of being stupid so I can make fun of it, and being good enough to devote the time to it. Not that that stopped me from prose-recapping EVERY EPISODE.

I don't know what my obsession with recapping is; it's like I think there's going to be a quiz.

I am grateful once again to the wolfpanther.org image gallery for high-quality reference screencaps.

omg, and i thought your recaps couldn't get any better.... this was fun, and i hope you do more :)

[identity profile] zelempa.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! Maybe if you help me decide on an episode that would be good to do, I'll be inspired. :)

I'm tempted to go with something great like "Warriors," but then I'd probably just want to do it straight, without jokes. And that's no fun.

I don't want to do something BORING like "Inside Man" or "Black or White."

Maybe focusing on plot-important episodes is the way to go, as a service to the busy fan.

well, have yo seen the cartoons i did? in Photoshop, because i can't draw... they're on my Sentinel site, <a href="http://sentinel.slashzone.org/sentinel.htm>here</a> they're much less based on the eps than yours, but some of the eps would work well as cartoons i think - True Crime (Gay!cam), or Flight (see Jim react with interest as Blair anounces "i have something in my pants") or Spare Parts (Jim meets the mother in law and hits on her) or, my personal favourite - the shower scene in The Rig...

[identity profile] zelempa.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 02:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I meant to tell you! Those comics TOTALLY INSPIRED ME to do this.

Flight would work on a number of levels, actually - that might be my choice for next one. :)

[identity profile] cross-stitchery.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL! and i was inspired by one done in SGA fandom <g>

ain't fandom wonderful? and, yay about Flight! can't wait :)

[identity profile] mab-browne.livejournal.com 2008-02-24 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Lots of fun. Hee! to the Dr McKay references. :-)

[identity profile] zelempa.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
:) I don't know if it's clear post-inking, but some of those SGA fans cannot be human.

That was great to see the real story.
Laurie

Thanks! I like to stick pretty close to the source... for some reason.

Swanky!

[identity profile] wateryacacia.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Man o man! That was swell! Drawing wise, I think page 5 is my favorite, but with so much Sentinel hijinks, how can I really choose?

Re: Swanky!

[identity profile] zelempa.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks!

Page 6 is my favorite--I'm kind of in love with Blair in the upper righthand corner--but I'm happy with the way the truck throwdown came out.

[identity profile] snycock.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
That was great! I was laughing like crazy.

I vote for Dead Drop next (just for the chance to see you add the blooper reel clip in). Or maybe Vow of Silence.

[identity profile] zelempa.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks!

"Dead Drop" is an interesting choice. I don't know if I can stomach drawing the Macarena.

[identity profile] snycock.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
Well, you could turn it into something else, like a strip tease... oh, no, they're supposed to be making NOISE, aren't they? *G*

[identity profile] mab-browne.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 05:59 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, you can. Blair in tight jeans swinging his hips...

And surely there must be comedy gold to be found in Jim swinging off buildings through windows while wearing dark trews and white socks as per usual. I have faith in you.

[identity profile] zelempa.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 12:23 pm (UTC)(link)
O.o is there a rule against that?

Man, I always wear white socks to swing on buildings!

[identity profile] karieflybabe.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 12:11 pm (UTC)(link)
LMFAO!

Oh yeah, love that.

*There's a clue in that tree... go get it.*

That is so Jim.

[identity profile] zelempa.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 12:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks!

I still don't really understand why he made Blair climb the tree.
ext_38484: (speaking)

[identity profile] karieflybabe.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)
To see if he would. Does he NEED a reason? Actually the fact is that the lower branches were difficult for one person to get to, and there was no way Blair could have boosted Jim up there, now could he?

[identity profile] zelempa.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 03:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, that makes sense. Thanks.

[identity profile] janedavitt.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
That was hilarious and I love the way you captured Blair's looks of utter adoration here and there. Plus, the 'hee hee' in his notes made me snerk ::g::

[identity profile] zelempa.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
utter adoration

I tried, I tried.

:D Cool - I never know how much people pay attention to weird little details like that.

I think

[identity profile] gillyp.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)
...I'm falling in love with you. ♥

[identity profile] zelempa.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw, shucks!

*shuffles feet*

[identity profile] demeter94.livejournal.com 2008-03-01 01:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Loved it!! Beautifully drawn, and with so many great moments, but what cracked me up the most was the SGA fans' reaction. Dr. McKay! LOL. Absolutely amazing.

[identity profile] zelempa.livejournal.com 2008-03-01 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee hee! Thanks! I can't watch Blair introduce himself as 'Dr McKay' without that reaction...
ext_14365: If you made this, tell me and I'll credit (TS: Holy cow)

[identity profile] fluterbev.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I've no idea how I missed this, but quite possibly this is the most awesome thing I've ever seen ♥

::goes to intensely happy place:: \o/

If ever you ever, ever considered doing more of these... just saying ;-)

[identity profile] zelempa.livejournal.com 2008-09-16 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee hee, thanks! I'm really busy now with art classes, but I suppose that means that when I DO get around to doing another one (my money's on Flight), it will be that much better.
ext_77330: (bleed sunshine)

[identity profile] libelluledargen.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
So funny. You're great at this. Still giggling...

[identity profile] zelempa.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 01:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! :D

[identity profile] whyskeyeyes.livejournal.com 2010-03-23 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
so I just discovered this and I gotta say this was just too much fun. The actual presentation and the little jabs were just hysterical.

Thanks for sharing.

[identity profile] zelempa.livejournal.com 2010-03-23 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't believe this was two years ago. I haven't matured at all. Thanks, I'm glad you liked it!
